With the capital in Dublin, Ireland is situated in the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the islands forming the archipelago of the British Isles, separated from its largest island, Great Britain, by the Irish Sea. It is the third largest island in Europe (after Iceland and Great Britain). Above all, it has a spectacular landscape with dominant mountains, widespread moors, and picturesque lowlands, as well as the culture that attract sailors and tourists to the Green Island. The varied coastline, which measures over 3,200 km and contains numerous bays (such as Donegal, Clew, Galway, Shannon, or Dingle), is also Ireland’s great asset. What affects the Irish temperate maritime climate most are south-westerly air masses formed over the Atlantic Ocean and a moderating influence of the North Atlantic Current (the Gulf Stream), which wash the north-west coast of the island. January and February are the coldest months with temperatures oscillating between 4 °C and 7 °C, while the warmest ones are July and August, when temperatures reach 14 °C-16 °C.
The stretch of the coast from Cork Harbour to the town of Dingle in County Kerry is the most interesting and popular region with sailors. It is possible to set sail in Baltimore or Kinsale, which are situated south of Cork. While cruising, short stops at waterside restaurants and pubs are just a must.
