Being an extremely attractive global tourist centre, Italy is the most popular place for holidays. It is home to plenty of historical treasures of architecture, starting from ancient ruins, through pearls of the Renaissance, or medieval towns on hills. It is not surprising therefore that Italy is on top of UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Yet, Venice and Rome are not the only attractions Italy has to offer. The country is renowned for its cuisine: real olive oil, pasta, pizza, and wines. The Italians, in turn, are well known to have sophisticated taste with regard to fashion and positive attitude towards people in general, foreigners too. This all together, combined with breath-taking landscapes, undoubtedly invites to visit Italy. And sailing seems the best way to explore this country since it gives a chance to moor in one of those lovely creeks far from the tourist hubbub.

The climate in Italy is predominantly Mediterranean with a hot and dry summer season, and cool and wet winters with frequent rainfall. Average temperature in summer is 25 °C, while in winter – 7 °C. It should be noted, however, that north of the country has a totally different, alpine climate. It is just a small patch, though, whereas in the majority of Italy sunny weather prevails. Warm water (25 °C ) and the sirocco wind (blowing mainly on the Apennine Peninsula) may be additional advantages for sailors.

The sailing season lasts from March to November. Its height falls on July and August since the temperatures then are highest, and the wind is gentler. A well-equipped yacht and catamaran fleet and state-of-the-art service stations in marinas will only add variety to the time spent under the sails.
